Potential Careers
Graduates of the IRM program will have both a degree and a diploma, opening the door to a broad range of career opportunities to manage digital resources and services including:
- Information management
- Research data management
- Research institutes
- Libraries – public libraries, academic libraries, special libraries and school libraries
- Web design
- User interface design and construction
- E-commerce
Graduates of the program will have a marketable skillset and a number of competitive advantages in the employment market including:
- Practical job related experience gained through practicum and senior year projects supervised by professionals and paraprofessionals working in a field related to information technology including Carleton’s MacOdrum Library
- Focus on information management and the French requirement will mean that graduates are competitive for employment in the federal government
- The School of Information Technology and the Library and Information Technician diploma program at Algonquin College regularly consult with representatives from employers to track current, future and emerging trends in information technology. The consultation process will keep the IRM program in step with the skills and competencies desired by employers
